Home Inspector Credentials for Sean O’Rear

Home Inspection Association

National Association of Certified Home Inspectors (NACHI)

In the state of Missouri, there is currently no requirement for any home inspector to be certified or licensed by the state. Since there is no licensure, there are no requirements for home inspectors in Missouri to be educated, trained, follow any standards of the home inspection industry, or be held to any code of ethics. In our opinion, no professional home inspector in Missouri should be operating without a membership in an association that provides a standard of practice, code of ethics and a continuing education requirement.

TIP – Make sure your home inspector is a member of an industry Click here to look up Sean’s Membership information recognized home inspection association!

We have chosen to be members of NACHI which requires all of these for each of its members. Click the image bellow to find out more about Sean’s membership or click on the links below to read about NACHI Standards.

Formal Education

University of Kansas

Sean finished his undergraduate studies at KU ending with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Microbiology. This has especially suited him in the areas of wood destroying insect inspections and mold inspections. Although not required by the industry, we feel that a four year degree adds to our inspectors general knowledge base and experience. In the case of Sean, it has also provided us with an in-house specialist!

Home Inspection Education

Midwest Inspectors Institute

Our inspectors are educated at professional home inspection schools as a requirement to inspect for our company. Experience or training in related fields is not sufficient to be a home inspector. Home Inspection is a trade that requires specific education and rigorous on-the-job training. All of our inspectors are required to complete their home inspection education by an accredited and industry recognized home inspection school in order to work with a CLOSER look, inc.

TIP – Make sure your home inspector is formally educated, and that their education is specifically in home inspections!

National Home Inspectors Exam

There is no requirement by the state of Missouri nor by NACHI to pass the National Home Inspectors Exam. However, this is the bar to which most states hold home inspectors, and is the basis for acceptance as a professional in the industry. Therefore, this is the bar to which we hold each of our inspectors.

TIP – Make sure your home inspector surpasses expectations!

Missouri Pest Control License

Certified Non-Commercial Applicator License (7b)

Though there is no current regulation or license in the state of Missouri for Home Inspections, there is a license requirement for wood destroying insect inspections. In this state, an inspector must be licensed to treat properties for insect infestations in order to inspect for wood destroying insects. Since our company offers inspections for wood destroying insects (termites, carpenter bees, carpenter ants, certain beetles), we require all of our inspectors to carry and maintain a Missouri pest control license.

TIP – Make your termite inspector has a current Missouri license!

Register Septic Installers License

There is also a requirement in the state of Missouri to carry a license to perform septic inspections. As with the wood destroying insect license, Missouri mandates that an inspector must carry a license to install septic systems in order to perform inspections on existing inspections. Since our company offers inspections of septic systems, we require our inspectors to carry and maintain a Missouri registered installer license.

TIP – Make sure your septic inspector is licensed with Missouri!
