  1. Great article – check out questionsense.com they have some great questions and information about questions to ask when hiring a home inspector!

  2. I think those are all good questions, but I have a major problem with the, “Are you ASHI certified” being on the list. AHSI is just one of many reputable associations for home inspectors. The three major ones of note are NACHI, NAHI and ASHI. Our inspectors belong to NACHI and I personally do not like ASHI as it tries to actively disparage against the others. I am a working inspector and NACHI fits my business the best of them all. I think a better questions to ask is, “Are you either state certified – or a member of a reputable national association for home inspectors?”

  3. I agree with previous comments about ASHI. My wife and I have moved over 20 times, due to my job. We have had a home inspection done for every move and the least of my concerns has been what association the home inspector belongs to. The other questions are more important and, of course, what our realtor thinks about the inspector. We have had both good and bad inspectors from ASHI. A vast number of the good inspectors have been NACHI certified, in our opinion. You should change your question away from the specific association.
